A Collaboration with Manhattan Fish Market Indonesia & Trans7

On our most recent collaboration, we worked with Manhattan Fish Market and Trans7’s Etalase. As with our last feature, I gave a live review of the restaurant’s most popular dishes at its Grand Indonesia branch. I crave Fish and Chips now and then. And although my usual visit to MFM is purely for their fish and chips, this time around I got to sample other varieties. What I enjoyed about the MFM experience is the assortment of seafood, sauces, and cooking methods. And the experience goes beyond just fish and chips. And even though I savor this iconic dish for its crispy and light batter on the outside and soft meat on the inside, if you are an avid seafood lover, give their platters–where you get a little bit of everything–a try! Here’s a peek at what we got to enjoy: Sunset by the Bay | 39K Iced Earl Grey Tea with a peachy aroma. Quad Delight | 69K Fried country mushrooms, fried calamari, chilled seafood mix, and a cranberry coleslaw. Grilled Gala Platter | 229K Grilled fish fillet, tiger prawns, …

Feature on Trans7 Etalase with El Asador

Remember I was telling you about how seriously South Americans take their bbq-ing or asado? Well, that’s how things are at El Asador. Last Thursday, Trans7’s Etalase invited me back in for an interview and live review of El Asador’s grub and gulp. Our last collaboration was a similar project at The Holy Crab just several months back. Watch the last segment here: The last time I visited El Asador was almost a year go, so it was nice to have a little memory refresher. And this time, I had a taste of their specials! Can’t complain, won’t complain. So it’s just me doing the usual–snapping food from 50 different angles until finally eating–but with a fat lens enjoying (or more likely revolted by) the view.  This seemingly simple task may not be for everyone. It demands some patience (not that I have a whole lot of it), humor, and a whole lot of gut (literally and figuratively). If the camera needs to retake one cut of the chicken you’ve just slapped in your face, you just have to …

Open Door Blogger Brunch Preview

When one door closes, another… Open the door to Open Door! Officially open today, Open Door is a brand new trendy place to keep you looking and feeling young and hip. At last Saturday’s Blogger Brunch Preview, a congregation of us food devotees, eager to meet, greet, and eat, got a taste of what makes Open Door the next most happening pad in West Jakarta. Located within the compounds of the Royal Mediterania Garden Residence, Open Door is unmissable (see detailed directions below). The design is dominated by a tasteful blend of recycled wood and metal, shaping up to look and feel like a well put together warehouse. The atmosphere is casual, a place to enjoy with good company. With two al fresco dining areas, you have the option of being inside and out. While the sizeable anterior area is furnished with dining tables and chairs, the posterior houses bar tables and a ping pong table (how fun is that!). Perhaps they’d host a beer pong throwdown? I’d be in. The menu has a decent …

Feature on Trans7 Etalase with The Holy Crab

The week following our feast at The Holy Crab, they invited us back for an interview with Trans7. And this time the Dungeness made its appearance! The two of us shared 1.1kg (2.4 lbs) worth of the Dungeness Crab, with some sweet corn and cajun fries on the side. The Dungeness cost Rp. 88.000 per 100g (0.2 lbs), so ours amounted to about Rp. 968.000 (note: prices are subject to change according to market price).  Oh, and this is the dress on which I got a spot of the red sauce. You can’t tell (and the camera can’t either) because I washed it off right away). A huge tip: DO NOT WEAR A DRESS. Here’s me with a deadpan and serious face, intently attempting to crack the shells open. Once again, I proved myself weak because in fact, the crab was cooked quite tender. In the meantime, I discovered a passion for banging on things with a hammer. And here’s all of us. Thank you all for a good time!

A Valentine Soirée

Valentine’s Day—the most romantic day of the year (we’ve heard). Perhaps you’re picking this day to do something grand and unconventional, or you’ve decided on something simple that won’t require a parachute or oxygen tank. Regardless of how and with whom you decide to spend the day, make sure it involves something scrumptious traveling through your palate! With a passion for quality and artistic food, Chefs Francis and Shane are bringing in something special on this occasion. Using a variety of ingredients that uniquely represent the marvelous marriage between Japanese and French cuisines, the chefs also wanted to incorporate unique ingredients such as chili, pomegranate, chocolate, etc. that are known to have aphrodisiac properties. Read my recent review. Here’s a preview of the menu: For bookings and enquiries, please contact: NOUVELLE Equity Tower GF, Unit B2 SCBD Lot 9 Jl. Jend. Woodstone Eatery Media and Blogger Gathering

If you haven’t heard of Woodstone Eatery on Senopati, it’s because it hasn’t officially opened yet. But don’t worry, you are still welcome to enjoy it, just note that the menu may still get a tweak here and there. On Thursday October 10, Woodstone hosted a media and blogger gathering in conjunction with the opening of Espa, a city spa with its signature Babor and taditional treatments for customers who are looking for a relaxing retreat after work. As if a spa and a cafe in one building weren’t enough, the Woodstone Eatery offers a salon dining concept, in which the dining area is one with a furniture shop. Diners can enjoy a cup of tea while admiring unique designs for the home and getting a streetview of the bustling Senopati. As co-owner Isabelle tells it, she and her sister initially thought of creating this one-stop spot for themselves–a quiet place at which they could have meetings with clients and friends. And every meeting point needs something beyond chairs and tables, right? So a menu offering sandwiches, Indonesian and American favorites, cupcakes, cakes, and …

Shopdeca’s First Blogger Event and Contest

Shopdeca is an online curated lifestyle and fashion store offering a variety of goods from clothings, bags, shoes, and jewelry to books, electonics, pillows, and plenty of other lifestyle items. Launched earlier this year, Shopdeca is quickly making its way to the hearts of shoppers who love scouting for products that are not only functional, but also uniquely designed and packaged. At the first blogger event hosted a Pong Me! Lounge in South Jakarta, Shopdeca introduced its dynamic team made up of creative minds and its premium selection of goods including its best sellers. The event kicked off with a friendly game of ping pong (great choice of venue, by the way), followed by a buffet (of course), and a whole lot of chit chatting and getting to know one another. I was thrilled to meet everyone–the team, bloggers, and the brilliant designers of some of the best selling goods on Shopdeca. An absolute inspiration for me! Among the wide selection of goods showcased at the event, I had my eye on several. But my favorite …

Classic Car Rally to Alam Sutera

Lazy Sundays are overrated these days. Going-out-and-doing-stuff Sundays are the new lazy Sundays. Sure, the waking up part is never snap, especially if the evening before involved a drink or two. Or three. Or more. But ordering your mind and body to spring out of bed early does pay off. By the end of the night, I felt as if I had lived 1 day longer, had 24 extra hours to spend. You know how we’re always complaining about how we don’t have time to do anything? Or how there should be more hours in a day? Well, go do something about it. So, I tested out the above theory and it worked. A bunch of classic car enthusiasts got together last Sunday for breakfast at Alam Sutera, BSD. Our ride was the 1955 Cabriolet Chevy Belair in bright yellow (of Hauwke Auto Gallery). The morning drive was quite pleasant–bright and breezy with the morning sun. However, our ride back on the 1957 Cabriolet Chevy Belair resulted in a pool of sweat, baked tanned skin, and …
