Don’t worry, no one’s angry or crazy. “Mad” here stands for Madison, as in Madison Avenue in New York City. So “2Mad” is “to Madison.” While the first storey of 2Mad is an eatery, the top floor houses an interior design warehouse showcasing home goods such as chairs, tables, lights, and others, artistically and locally designed. A blend of wood with metal, slapped on with a potpourri of colors makes this warehouse a fun sight to see, an inspiring collection for lovers of unique crafts.
The interior of 2Mad Eatery is decidedly New York City-inspired (what could be more telling than the yellow cab?). But interestingly, it also incorporates the local designs exhibited in the showroom upstairs. So, whatever furniture or artwotk you see while you dine, you can buy too. The idea behind “2Madison” is that the owner, having lived in NYC, has big plans to bring local Indonesian art to Madison Avenue (at least somewhere in NYC). It’s her way of saying, “hey, Indonesian products are worth a closer look.”
And if the decor is consumed by NYC paraphernalia, the menu selection covers more ground and includes an assortment of sandwiches, steaks, pizzas, pastas, noodles, tacos, and burgers (neat menu design, by the way!).
Beef Bitter Ballen | 45K
Potato, beef, homemade wasabi sauce
– Never had a complain about bitter ballen. The mush of potato and beef just works for me. This one is no exception too; it was tasty.
NY Style Burger | 125K
Homemade burger patty, BBQ sauce, red cheddar cheese
– This dish intrigued us the most. It tasted so familiar yet we couldn’t figure out what it was that made it so. We reckoned it was the sauce that reminded us of something we’ve all had before, something very American. It was the combination of the cheese, with the ketchup, and perhaps the meat too. Anyhow, the taste was actually decent, but the size was disappointing. The patty was thin and didn’t quite have a “bite” to it. Especially for how much it cost, which I thought was overpriced.
Orange Chicken with Butter Rice | 60K
Crispy chicken fillet, homemade orange sauce, butter rice, grilled vegetables, served with a side of clear soup.
– I love love love orange chicken. Think of Panda Express’ Orange Chicken! Although this one was nothing like it. The chicken was crusted with a ton of flour and fried extra crispy (think instead of fish and chips). While it wasn’t bad overall, it just wasn’t what we expected of orange chicken. The butter rice, however, was nicely cooked, soft, and well, buttery.
Ice Blend Green Tea | 45K
Strawberry Orange Juice | 40K
The drinks were all-around very sweet. If you aren’t crazy about sweet, definitely ask for sugar on the side. Spending wise, you’re looking at beyond 100K, in the range of 120-200K, and more with alcoholic drinks. Overpriced in my opinion, for the overall deal. Anyway, if you enjoy unique, local artwork, hop on over to 2Madison in Kemang for a little bit of New York City in Jakarta. Enjoy!
