Another Saturday called for another Bite Expedition! Initially intrigued by the name of this Bite Spot, I wasn’t sure many Jakartans know of it because of its secluded location.
The overall feel and decor reminded me of the famed Loewy, but much quieter–quite ideal for a business meeting or weekend date.
The menu, which I wouldn’t consider typical, serves a fusion of cuisine varieties from pan-fried salmon and soba carbonara, to tom yam fried rice and angus cabai hijau. The two of us spent a little over 350k, including an iced tea and water.
My friend, with whom I brunched, is also a serious eater with a serious appetite. Having such a friend makes me feel better about myself. I mean, about my gluttony. So, it’s always wise to keep a gluttonous friend around, for both your sakes.
Great food means little without great company.
Unless it’s something wrapped in bacon and cheese and topped with ice cream.
Korean Beef Tortillas
–Appreciated that they stuffed a lot of meat in the wrap, but didn’t meet my expectations of what I know this dish is supposed to taste like. For those of you who’ve had this at Chi’lantro in ATX, do not expect the same thing.
Tom Yam Fried Rice
–Sour, as it should be. Decent, not too special.
Garlic Noodles with Jumbo Shrimp
Garlicky Yellow noodles tossed with green onions, topped with jumbo shrimps sprinkled with more garlic and grated cheese.
–I like the chewy texture of the noodles and the shrimps tasted fresh. Could’ve come in a size Large instead of Small, though, just saying.
Bread and Butter Pudding with Butterscotch
–You almost can never go wrong with bread pudding, and to top it off, ice cream! This one was not bad, but I’ve had better ones, even in Jakarta.
–One of those either you love or you hate. I’m one of the rare fans of this veggie cake, along with deceivingly “healthy” sweets including zucchini and banana bread. But this particular one, I am not a fan of. Moist and butter-heavy, but hardly tastes like carrot cake.
