I love milk. I love milk with cereal. Love it with biscuits. Love it with oreos. Love it most with soft-baked chocolate chip cookies (the next best part is drinking the chocolate-stained milk down to the very last drop).
Excuse my mental eating.
But hey, I love milk as is too, hot or cold. A glass of milk can do wonders including helping you to sleep better, alleviating a hangover, taming an upset stomach, and filling you up good and easy.
In recent years, milk, along with other dairy products, has gained a bad rep with illnesses, predominantly breast cancer pointing its finger at the supposed bad guy (although of course most everything in medical science and in the world is debatable). Here’s when the “new and improved” hero steps in.
Brother from another mother, sister from another father, call it what you may, nut milk has gained a lot of popularity and made its way into the hearts and bellies of milk lovers all over. You already know I love milk. So when Colby’s Farm shared their Almond Milk product with me, I was excited to have a try!
Colby’s Farm is a new startup based in Jakarta specializing in homemade 100% organic nut milk (Almond, Cashew, Black Bean). Flavors include Original (unsweetened), Vanilla, Chocolate, and Matcha (green tea). All lovers of milk, (including you poor lactose-intolerant folks), take heed! The ingredients of Colby’s Farm milk are basic and all-natural:
Almond Milk: almonds, distilled water, forest honey, sea salt

Black Bean Milk: black beans, distilled water, forest honey, sea salt
A healthy alternative to regular milk, and a happy alternative for lactose-intolerant folks, these milks are rich with benefits and free of preservatives (yay!) Learn more about how you can benefit from these yummy, healthy drinks!
The milk products came in a reusable tote, with a neat little tag. The bottles are 250ml each—a good amount (about a mug’s size)—complete with its ingredients list and nutrition information. The bottle was double-capped, ensuring maximum security. The bottle cap is packaged extremely tightly, which is a good thing. But it was so tight that it was almost impossible to open. A tip: tie a few (3-5) rubber bands around the cap and turn to open. This method works. And when I managed to open it, the edges of the bottle cap were sharp, so be careful. Although it’s essential to ensure maximum security and binding, they could go a little easy on the bottle cap’s tightness. Especially since I imagine many consumers would like to have it on the go.
Think skim milk in texture with a slightly nutty flavor. The texture is thin, unlike that of whole milk. The original is unsweetened, so don’t be surprised by its plain taste (it’s supposed to be a healthy drink, hello??). As for the other flavors including vanilla, chocolate, and green tea, including the black bean milk, some are a tad sweet for my taste while others are pretty well-balanced. My first favorite? The Green Tea Almond Milk. And my second, the Vanilla Cashew Milk. Oh, and make sure to shake well before drinking, and consume immediately after opening.
There are endless ways to enjoy nut milk. Have it with your morning cereal, oatmeal, cookies, or as is, or blend it with a banana to make a smoothie. If you’re feeling naughty, add some peanut butter for a creamy kick, heck throw in a couple of chocolate chips (by a couple we mean a couple of cups). And if you’re feeling extra naughty, dump in your favorite ice cream! Take it to work, the gym, on the road, to bed, or wherever! Or you can even use it as a mic for karaoke like I did. While you’re at it, take a selfie too. Make sure to check the expiration label on the bottle. With no preservatives, these milks are good for just 4 days.
