Here’s my go-to place for a quick, cheap, latenight bite. Been around since 1971, this food complex serves everything from bubur and nasi goreng, to sate kambing and internet (indomie telor kornet). But first and foremost, it was known for its now famed roti bakar (grilled toast), concocted by none other than Eddy (refer to the inconspicuous photo sticker above for Eddy’s portrait).
There’s quite a wide selection you can choose from. But my time and again, top recommendations are: Bubur Ayam Spesial with extra egg and Roti Bakar V8. The bubur(porridge) is porridge on crack–it’s got everything but the kitchen sink. Who would have thought cheese in porridge would taste this great? Shall we ask porridge connoiseurs over in China? Roti Bakar V8 has got pretty much everything too–cheese, chocolate, peanut, and sweetened condensed milk. Serving around 500 roti bakar a night, Roti Bakar Eddy has become a favorite among street food lovers. Price wise, you are looking at spending atomically in the range of 20-30K per person. Mind you, hygiene is probably not something you want to fret about here. Everything is done “gerobak” style. It’s better to just focus on eating what’s in front of you. Enjoy!
