I think we’ve already established, firmly, my soft spot for Italian food. Have I ever said no to Italian? Nope. Will I ever say no to Italian, ever?
Would you stop loving your puppy? I didn’t think so.
Having just returned from my jaunt to China and Hong Kong, I was so ready to fill my days with anything other than Chinese food. And what was my first choice? You’ve guessed it. And I was in luck.
Tredici (meaning thirteen, because exactly 13 people co-own the establishment) Ristorante was due to be checked off my list today. I took my cousin, with whom I’ve shared pretty much a lifelong voyage of making a pig of myself (it’s mutual and we feel no shame).
The gracious Stella, one of the active owners of Tredici, welcomed us into the back end of the restaurant which felt like the cozy outdoors, without the hullabaloo of mosquitoes. If the view from your seat reminds you of Italy (or at the very least Olive Garden), it’s because it’s supposed to! I loved the little hanging lights and the patches of green spread across the back wall – very Italian-markety (and Olive Gardeny)! Okay, enough about OG.
We didn’t mind a surprise so we let Stella take care of the order for us.
First up, some housemade bread with Tredici’s very own housemade pesto sauce!! I can’t tell you how much I love pesto. Well I guess I can. I love its flavor – savory, nutty, wholesome, its aroma, and its color. Sadly, not every pesto sauce I’ve had is great. But long story short, this one has got to be one of the best I’ve had in the city. Stella – I will be back for your pesto pasta.
Insalata Fiorentina | 58K
Rocket Greens, Tomato, Basil, Mushroom, Grilled Scamorza Cheese, Basil Pesto
You know how it is, a salad and I don’t really mix. I’ve never been a salad person, probably never will be. But I’ve never been so happy and willing to feed on a bowl of salad as I did this wonderful Fiorentina. To be fair, it had that pesto in it (hello again). But the whole dish just didn’t taste like your regular salad which for me, was in two extremes – either flat and insipid or drenched in a ridiculous amount of creamy dressing that makes you forget you’re eating a salad (which also defeats the purpose of ordering a salad). This Fiorentina had the perfect savoriness, and between the perfect union of the greens, tomato, mushrooms, and cheese, and the pesto, we both thoroughly enjoyed it!

House Brewed Iced Tea, Cranberry Juice, Flash Frozen Cranberries
I’m usually a room temperate water kind of girl, but today’s heat took a toll on me. I decided on a refreshing, acidic drink with a kick. I loved that they used whole cranberries, but if you’re not into sour drinks or anything sour, I recommend asking for extra sugar syrup for the perfect balance.
Vongole In Casseruola | 52K
Clam Stew, Cherry Tomato, White Wine, Herbs, Toasted Garlic Bread
White wine, garlic, herbs, and tomatoes – one almost can’t go wrong with these. This vongole antipasto was a pleasant opener to the mains.
Grilled Pork Chop, Green Veggies, Potato
The pork chop was our least favorite. It just didn’t deliver in terms of juiciness or tenderness. Either the meat was tough to begin with or it was a tad overcooked. But we know that pork chops aren’t the safest choice or the easiest to pull off.
Capellini Con Scampi | 120K
Angel Hair Pasta, Chili, Shrimp, Garlic, White Wine
Spaghetti? Of course. I guess I sort of lied when I said that I would let Stella take care of our order. I now recall asking her to throw in a pasta dish in there (which she delightfully did). No complaints here.
Pizza Mantova | 118K
Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Italian Pork Sausage, Gorgonzola Cheese, Rocket Greens
Our last main: a thin-crust pizza with Italian sausage. This pizza didn’t really make me go wow; but it was decent nevertheless.
Tiramisu | 58K
And for the final touch: a little sweetness in our tongues. We were going all-Italian, so we of course had to go with the Tiramisu. We loved it! Besides the fact that it was a tad sweet for our taste, it was smooth and creamy, and had the perfect rum proportion (you may like more or less depending on how much you like rum).
All in all, our lunch was lovely, not to mention filling. Thank you Stella and Tredici Ristorante for having us! We are sure to come back (I decidedly will for the Pesto, Insalata Fiorentina, and Tiramisu). Salute!
