Wilshire, inspired by the famous boulevard in Los Angeles, is housed within Foundry No. 8 in Jakarta’s swarming SCBD. The restaurant brings a taste of the city, a place to reminisce, and a spot for gastronomical sighting. Owned by the young and fab Dolly Chia, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu with an apparent love for good food and drinks, the attention to detail is palpable in Wilshire’s cooking and interior. The lovely decor (love the flower mosaics!) and the creative use of raw metals as drop decoratives (these remind me of organ pipes at church) render a rustic yet elegant feel.
Wilshire is a great place not only for lunch and dinner, but its private area also makes for a fitting nook for special occasions–arisan, dates, birthdays, and gatherings. And of course, the setting makes for a neat background for those who love taking pictures over, over, and over again (no judgment there).
The lengthy menu is consumed by a little bit of everything, East meets West, and more. The starter croissant sticks were perfectly flaky, savory at every bite. In fact, all the dishes were well-cooked. The slow cooked wagyu quality was super, and it came out perfectly medium and tender. The pork belly is, well it’s pork belly. C’mon. The desserts were, too, delightful and thankfully, not too sweet. My particular favorites were the cheeseburger eggsplosion and panna cotta (if you are a coffee lover, this Coffee Panna Cotta might be your favorite panna cotta – the coffee flavor and aroma is everything but shy!).

Two things I’ll say. One: the portions were rather petite (you know how that is). And two: I love mashed potato and I love corn, and I love them together. But I wish they had would’ve paired the main (meat) with something other than corn and potato. I think that would’ve added a little more interest to the overall sapor and presentation. And spending wise, you’re looking in the range of 200-400K per person. If you enjoy dining, seeing, and being seen at a posh place in Jakarta, bring friends, and hop on over to Wilshire. Enjoy!
