We all get excited and pumped up around New Year’s. Resolutions are on a roll and we feel good.
But come February and March, those habits we were so keen on keeping up are starting to be forgotten.
We’re back to picking up chips rather than carrots.
But we’re here to reignite your motivation to be better.
Here are 10 ways to be happier today.
Share them with your loved ones so they too can be inspired!
1. Reconnect with someone.
It’s easy to lose touch with someone. But it’s also as easy to get back in touch, thanks to today’s virtual inboxes and pokes.
2. Be grateful.
Every single day. Start the day thinking about the things you are grateful for, and end the day thinking of all the good things that happened that day. Gratitude reciprocates. Unhappiness is the result of the lack of gratitude. So be happy, there’s always something to be thankful for.
3. Try something new.
Learn to tap dance. Bake a pie. Pick up a clarinet. Go to a Zumba class. Do something, anything you’ve never done before, or have been wanting to do but haven’t.
4. Get organized.
Wherever you spend most of your time—your bedroom, your office, your kitchen—keep the space clutter-free and organized. Start small, you don’t have to fix an entire shipwreck in a day. Clean up one corner a day. Throw away things you don’t need. Place things where you can see and remember them.
Take 10 minutes everyday. Don’t have 10 to spare? Take 5. Heck, take 2 if that’s all you have. Sit comfortably in a chair, close your eyes, feel your body sinking into the chair, take deep breaths, and notice the sounds around you. Headspace, Smiling Mind, and Mindful Meditations are a few among the many meditation apps you can download on your smartphone.
6. Show someone you care.
Leave a message, buy an extra cookie, or send an e-greeting card. You may be the only positive thing that happened to them that day.
7. Fake it ‘till you make it.
Think the way you want to feel. It’s all about perspective. Our minds control how we feel, act, and react to things around us. If you’re feeling sluggish today, re-program your mind to feel energized. Start acting enthusiastic, and you’ll be enthusiastic.
8. Learn something new everyday.
Make reading a habit. Make attentive listening a habit. If someone want to talk, let him/her talk. You learn more by listening rather than talking.
9. Go to bed earlier.
Our energy level depends on how well rested we are. So turn off your devices, and sink into your bed. Be a morning person. You’ll find yourself with so much more time on your hands to do the things you want.
It’s easy to do, right?
