Wedding Weekend: The Reception & Afterparty

After the ceremony, our guests had some time to relax and stretch their legs a bit before joining us for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the garden. R and I wanted to mingle with our guests as much as possible so we joined them for a few bites and sips before getting ready to make our entrance as the new Mr. and Mrs. Early on, we decided against a traditional entrance, and committed ourselves to making our way in via our trusted chariot as a fun little act for our guests. I remember feeling nervous right before it, but the tension went away the moment we’d safely arrived at our spot without knocking over any of the lanterns and setting a fire.

R opened with a few words of thanks, followed by my little surprise for R–a little something I had written which was supposed to be my personal vows to R. I didn’t get to say them during the ceremony because it would be too long, and I thought the content was less church appropriate and more reception appropriate. I remember the night I wrote the piece, I teared up a little thinking about what a feeling it was to find someone you could love and be with for the rest of your life. But of course, my tears kept to themselves that night.

By then it was dinnertime and I was famished. I stuffed my face (as comely as possible) with whatever was at the table. I wasn’t worried about anyone looking because they were probably too busy doing the same. Wild big band music was playing in the background and the soft amber lights and white blossoms veiled the entire garden. Later on in the evening, my mom and dad gracefully performed for us a duet on the piano and violin, which really, I want to say, brought the house down. They two make the best parts of my life and I’m so proud of them.

The groomsmen and bridesmaids got to say a few words, and I was especially moved by what my three girls had to say. I knew then that they really knew me. We danced to Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, after which the fireworks burst and painted the dark skies. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and everyone’s faces lit in glittery glow. When it was afterparty time, we were lead towards a canopy of sparklers as we made our way to the sands to join in on the singing and dancing.
