Antipodean

We’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And although we believe you when you say your mom or wife makes kick-ass scrambled eggs, we think it’s time to let her rest, step out of your comfort zone, and try someone else’s scrambled eggs. The only thing: you might want to consider changing out of your pajamas first. Here’s a public secret: my dad makes fantastic scrambled eggs and breakfasts! But when he’s on break (for reasons I can’t say), we head to Antipodean. This particular Sunday, we were all about the protein – eggs, eggs, and more eggs! If you like your scrambled eggs wet and runny, you’ve come to the right place. But if you don’t, you can probably ask for more well-done eggs.  Portion wise, they serve them pretty decently, although my dad made a point when he facetiously told the waitress that “The Big Breakfast” doesn’t quite deserve the tag “big.” I agreed – it could’ve been bigger. All in all, Antipodean’s dishes have proven to be consistent and quite delectable. …

Bagel Bagel

Bagel was always my faithful companion any chow time of the day–breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, and everything else in between. I’d diligently stock my freezer with a variety of them: plain, onion, cheese, and blueberry (oh so perfect with strawberry cream cheese!). That’s the great thing about bagel–you can conveniently store them in the freezer for those late-night guilty pleasure yearnings (yes, I can read your mind). Although I enjoy plain bagel with cream cheese, I remember the first bagel sandwich I ever had: spinach mushroom omelet in plain bagel at Einstein Bros Bagels in Madison. Ever since then, I knew it was my calling to always keep a solid depository of bagels in my fridge. I’ve frequented Bagel Bagel in Kemang several times now, and I’ll say that they are consistent in taste and quality. But here’s the difference. In the US, bagels are considered everyday, economical, easy, and fast food. Here, they are somewhat of a rarity, food you eat once in a while, and food that is definitely not cheap. In fact, …
