Dill Gourmet Cafe New Year’s Feast: A New Concept and Menu

You probably know Dill Gourmet Cafe to be, well, a cafe. Think coffee and cake. During our last visit, we had some light bites from the sandwich, pizza, pasta, and cake selection. And when I say light, I mean it. But with the new year, Dill is rebranding and revamping its concept from cafe to casual dining, which means a whole lot more selection of mains that will actually fill you up. Oh before I get too excited and forget, we got to take home these almond chocolate chip cookies as a favor, and boy were they a treat! I wiped out the whole can (with a bit of help from three friends) in a day. I regret nothing. You’ve got to get your hands on these! And since they were bite-sized, it didn’t even feel like I was eating anything (ha! the lies I feed myself!). The new Dill features a gourmet market/cafe concept, complete with an inviting display of fresh pressed juices and a handsomely put-together menu. The first thing on my table: the …

Fatburger Jakarta

Craving a burger may be one of the most common, natural, and socially tolerable appetitions. Not to say that a hunger for anything else is perverse, but let’s just say we never judge a burger dream. Fatburger has been in Jakarta for several years now and even though 50 percent of its name is dominated by fat, do not worry about actually getting fat on the burgers. Unless of course you decide to have it everyday, in which case you should definitely worry about getting fat. I’m yet to feast upon a true burger in Jakarta, one that could calm an upset baby and give me goosebumps. Too bad, this is not it. Fatburger’s burger is quite juicy and decent, but didn’t raise any hair for me. Although, seeing as Jakarta offers a limited number of burger choices, Fatburger is a fair option. Conveniently located at major malls around Jakarta, Fatburger may be the gratification your craving seeks. Enjoy! Dill Gourmet Cafe

Dill Gourmet Cafe replaced long-time tenant Secret Recipe at Plaza Indonesia. I’m always cautious about sandwich places in Jakarta because with the exception of perhaps one or two, I haven’t quite been met with a simply good and goodly simple sandwich. Usually, I’d land on one with tough-to-chew bread, too little stuffing (or just little as a whole) or plain blandness. Sorry for all the negativity–it’s my way of being detailed and specific. For the size and quality, Dill Gourmet sandwiches are steeply priced. One sandwich hardly filled me up and the mini pizza was seriously mini. Seriously. The desserts were, for lack of a better descriptive, simply boring. Even though I do like the cafe decor and setting, the food won’t make me come back a second time. But for you who are wanting a quick bite such as a sandwich and don’t want to think too much, however, I do recommend Starbucks’. You’re probably thinking Starbucks? What’s so special about that? Nothing too special but their sandwiches are good and no doubt much …

Bittersweet: More Sweet Than Bitter

I love cake. Did you know that cake can be a loyal, loving friend? Cake is my good friend. You know how some women end up growing old with no one but 30 cats in their home? I’d be one of those, except I’d be having, instead of cats around, cake. My fetish for cake has been around since I was little, but more and more, it’s becoming unruly. They say you don’t eat the goods you bake yourself, but when I bake, I am absolutely guilty of that. And serendipitously, when I’m baking, I always end up having a lot of leftovers. I do give out most to people, but the rest (usually the ugly) I keep for myself (sometimes stashed in my bedroom). Don’t judge. Since I got back form the US, there are few restaurants/cake shops in Jakarta that serve cakes that I really enjoy. Bittersweet is one of them, yay! At this point, perhaps like me, you are probably sick of reading about red velvet cake. I wasn’t sure why or …
